Welcome to my class!

Hello,

I'm Mrs. Lisciandrello and the easiest way to pronounce it is "listen-drello."

I enjoy learning about the solar system and outer space so I consider my class full of stars.

My Teaching Philosophy

Like the saying that all children are gifted, just some open their packages sooner than others, I believe that all students have the ability to learn. Some just don't know their abilities.

My goal is to help each student recognize he or she CAN learn to read and to hopefully enjoy reading. Many students, because they don't learn in the traditional way, don't think they are smart enough and/or that they will ever learn to read. This is most definitely not true. It takes intelligence to overcome the obstacles placed in the way of learning. Because of the hardships these students face and overcome, most of them become excellent learners and love to spread their knowledge.

My History

I was born in Tennessee, but I have lived in Florida most of my life. I am married and have two wonderful sons. The oldest, Drew, is in college completing his Masters and our youngest, Alex, is a freshman in high school. Our family has two basset hounds (Elvis and Frankie), three cats (Apple, Blinky and Johnny), and many fish who die quite frequently.

I recently finished college at SPC with my degree in Exceptional Education.

NASA has an excellent 'Picture of the Day' website. They show many interesting things.

Why I became a teacher

Both of my sons are dyslexic. My involvement in helping them led me to volunteering at schools assisting and tutoring students with learning differences. After a few years I started working as a teacher at a private school for dyslexic students. I wanted to further my education so I could help even more students. I knew getting my degree at SPC was the best thing I could do.

SPC has two-year, four-year, and continuing education degrees and classes. I think it is an excellent school.
